MY STORY

I was 4 years old when the ball was put in my hands and I’ve
considered myself a Bucket Get(Her) ever since. Like most young
girls playing basketball, I was forced to play with the boys because
not too many girls have an interest in playing basketball at an
early age.
By the time I reached 4th grade, I was finally able to play on an all- girls team and it was then that I started to notice there were no
“girls basketball sections” in any clothing store when my parents
took me to get my gear. I loved getting new basketball sneakers,
ball shorts, and tees, but I didn’t understand why I had to go to the
boy’s section to find it. Additionally, playing with the girls felt
different because the crowd and the attention received was
different. I can’t really explain it, but the excitement felt at a boy’s
league game in Philadelphia, was much different than the girls
leagues I played in.
As a rising sophomore (Abington HS, PA 2023), I started varsity as a
freshman, led my team in scoring averaging 16pts per game,
shooting at 40% from behind the arch, and my male friends that I
played ball with as a kid seemed to have more platforms for
exposure than I did (even though my stats were better; no shade).
I began looking to see if there were any platforms that specifically
highlighted girls the way my male friends were being highlighted
and found very little (if anything).
I thought to myself why doesn’t someone create a similar platform
for girls that highlights all the great things we do on and off the
court and create some hot gear for us too?
When Kobe Bryant died, I remember watching this show where he
said a reporter asked him, “Don’t you want to have a boy?” and
Gigi stepped right in like a true Bucket Get(Her) and said “I got
this...” In that moment, I realized, I don’t have to wait for someone
to create the platform, I can do it. My parents exposed me to
entrepreneurship at an early age, so “I got this”. There are girls
that will come after me and I don’t want them to have to go to
the boy’s section to find gear or wonder why there’s no platform
dedicated for female basketball players. “I got this”.
My vision is to have Bucket Get(Her) be a girl’s empowerment
brand committed to creating products, content and platforms for
female athletes who score on the court, in the community and in
leadership roles and I know it can be done.
Please join me on this journey.
Yours in Hoops,
Cire Worley
